How long do you keep roses?

So I got some roses from my boyfriend for sweetest day yesterday and I was wondering how long I should keep them. Do I keep them until they start wilting or until after they've already died or what. I'm not too experienced with this kind of stuff so I don't know what I'm expected to do.
